Once you've installed Discord, added a range of servers, and joined a few channels, a notification sound ("beeping") can quickly become very annoying as Discord messages or notifications occur on various servers.

This Discord "beeping" tone can quickly drive you crazy if you're an active member of several communities. Don't worry; we've got you covered.

Here's a guide to quickly and easily turn off the Discord notification sound in three simple steps. We've added some bonus tips, depending on how much you'd like to control your discord experience.

Turn Off Discord Notification Sounds:

Go to settings and notifications (in the left menu). ⚙️
Scroll to Sounds and check the "Disable Notification Sounds" radio button.
The settings below this area also allow you to turn off each notification sound individually.

If you wish to turn off the notifications that trigger the notification sounds, you can add the following steps to improve your Discord experience, depending on your taste.

Limit Direct Messages (and DMs beeping at you) [Optional]:

You should limit direct messages (DMs) depending on the community you join, the level of spam messages you receive, or the users you're used to dealing with.

Click on the little gear icon in user settings (lower left of the screen). ⚙️
Click on Notifications on the left menu.
Scroll down and turn "Message" off.

Discord can be problematic with scammers and spam messages, so limiting DMs can help limit notifications and add security to your Discord experience, especially in the crypto space. Limiting DMs is, of course, optional but recommended in some circumstances.

Limit Server Notifications [Optional]:

Next, here is a way to limit server notifications; this can be unique for each Discord server you're a member of.

For example, some Discord servers use the @everyone notification far more than others. When you receive an "@everyone" notification in a server, it will alert you like a DM alert. This can happen from various channels on the Discord server. The notification sound can get relentless if you're a member of multiple servers.

If this is the case, you need to edit or mute the notifications for each each Discord server.

Take control of your Discord experience by muting a specific server that is overusing the "@everyone" notice or editing the settings to your liking. You have the power to set the following areas up for each server you are a member of.

Limiting server notifications can help you be notified from specific servers. Right-click on the Discord server icon and click on "Notification Settings" From here, you can decide how you're notified:

Only receive mentions when someone uses @mention.
Do not get any messages.
Stop anyone sending you @mention (including admins etc.).
All roles (admins) cannot send you @mention.
